MMD thematic meeting: FEM

Welcome to the first MMD thematic meeting. The topic is ”FEM – what do we have, and what do we need?”.

Time: Tue 2021-06-15 09.00 - 12.00

The go-to numerical method in the solid mechanics community is the Finite Element Method (FEM). In its simplest description it is a numerical solution method for boundary value problems on complex domains. At the heart of the solution procedure lies the constitutive description of each material point – what mechanics people would call the “material model”. However, only a subset of all such possible (and available) models are firmly rooted in materials science.

There will be a short overview of FEM to set the scene and a presentation by ThermoCalc on property modelling and databases.

We are looking forward to a lively discussion where everyone is welcome, and encouraged, to share their knowledge, insights, ideas, questions, frustrations and tangents to the subject at hand.
